Rural Tribal Spectrum

Take Advantage of the small window of Opportunity to claim Tribal spectrum before it is auctioned by the FCC in early 2020……

Summary:

  • Any unused EBS spectrum in Tribal areas can be claimed by Tribal entities prior to the auction from February 3 - August 3, 2020
  • This is a rare event where very valuable spectrum can be claimed by the incumbent Federally recognized tribe at no cost
  • Tribes should prepare for the tribal window by discussion with tribal officials so that the opportunity is taken advantage of
  • This spectrum in your area is very valuable and can be used to deploy carrier grade voice or broadband

How can you utilize the Spectrum?

  • High speed Internet to the home or business up to 1 Gbps
  • Public Safety including search and rescue
  • Educational needs, school bus WiFi, distance learning
  • Device Monitoring - Examples; security systems, cameras, electrical, irrigation
  • Mobile phone options where cell carriers are not adequate, roaming revenue
  • Vehicle tracking, Smart Farms
  • Enterprise Options
  • Land Mobile Radio Upgrade

How do you apply?

  • Application window is open from February 3rd to August 3rd 2020. Information page, maps, and other necessary tools available to the public on the FCC’s website
  • January 2020 – “Tribal Priority Window” projected to be 90 days. The FCC will announce further timelines and procedures.

Be Prepared:

  • Proof you are a federally-recognized tribe OR an eligible entity owned & controlled by a tribe or consortia of tribes;
  • Proof that the land where the license is available is tribal and rural
  • Local presence in the land you are applying
  • Determine spectrum channels to obtain
